Over £4,000 raised for the Leicester HPB Unit

BHW Solicitors’ chosen charity for the last year has been the Leicester HPB Unit. During that time staff, clients and friends of BHW have helped to raise over £4000. To mark the end of the year-long partnership, we look back at some of the fund-raising events that have taken place.

Remi-Leigh Bond won the BHW Bake-Off Challenge with her Chocolate Orange Cake

Last summer, five bakers went head-to-head to be crowned BHW star-baker. BHW staff donated generously in order to try the cakes while channelling their inner Prue Leith or Paul Hollywood to judge the entries. ‘Remi’s Chocolate Orange’ cake won the day! In September, two of BHW’s staff completed the ‘Run for All Asda Foundation Leicester 10k’ raising sponsorship for the HPB Unit. The run took in the sights of Leicester, including Abbey Park, the Grand Union Canal, King Richard III Visitor Centre and Leicester Cathedral. Over 1100 runners took part in the race, which was started by the Lord Mayor of Leicester, Ross Grant, and Leicester Tigers player, Tom Youngs. Daniel Rennocks and Claire Bell completed the Leicester 10k

December saw BHW employees dust-off their finest Christmas jumpers in aid of the Leicester HPB Unit. Votes were cast for the top-two jumpers before a head-to-head egg and spoon race in the car-park to find a winner!

In March, BHW’s Commercial Property team sprang into action with a step-challenge. Members of the team challenged themselves to complete between 5,000 and 10,000 steps per day for the whole of March, raising lots of sponsorship money in the process. Over 150 guests attended a charity evening at Kelmarsh Hall

Earlier this year, BHW was proud to sponsor a charity evening organised to raise money for three good causes including BHW’s chosen charity; the Leicester HPB Unit. Over 150 guests attended the historic Grade I listed; Kelmarsh Hall, near Northampton. Organisers put on a spectacular evening of music and entertainment including a jazz band, pianist, ukulele band, magician, glambola and silent auction. Daniel Rennocks, Rob Flannagan, Paul Davis, Steve McElhone, Bev Merrell and Cameron Connolly completed the Rothley 10k

A rather wet and windy evening was not enough to put a BHW team off completing the Rothley 10k back in June. A team of six braved the conditions with over 1000 other competitors, raising valuable sponsorship money along the way. Throughout the year, BHW’s clients have also been generously donating money to the HPB Unit for which we are very grateful.

The Leicester HPB Unit is based at the Leicester General Hospital and provides vital research into pancreas and liver cancer. Everyone at BHW would like to wish the team well for the future and hope they continue the important work undertaken at the unit.
