Name: Chelsey Wileman

Department: Dispute Resolution

Qualification Date: April 2022

What is an average day like?

Always busy! After my ‘Costa Coffee’ I sit down and review the emails/phone calls I have received from the evening before, and I get things noted down on my life saving to-do list.

Of course, not every day is as planned as I will work on lots of matters at the same time, but an average day may involve:

  • Drafting court proceedings
  • Liaising with clients, opposing solicitors and the Court
  • Reviewing court documents and without prejudice negotiations
  • Researching niche areas of dispute and reporting my findings to the client

Before leaving I go back to the holy grail to-do list and update, tick off (or usually extend) and review.

What do I enjoy most about my role?

I enjoy how different each day is and the sheer amount of information I take in and get to learn.

Each client has a different issue that needs resolving, each requiring intricate research and application. It is always challenging, and I love that!

The Dispute Resolution department are extremely team focused and are very supportive with each other’s files.

What was my route to becoming qualified?

I completed my LPC/LLM straight after my undergraduate degree (all at Nottingham Trent University) and then started as a family paralegal at Astle Paterson Solicitors in Burton Upon Trent in 2019.

I did this for approximately 6 months before the dreaded pandemic hit. I worked on and off for another 6 months in the family department. I commenced my training contract with Astle Paterson in September 2020 and qualified in April 2022.

What seats did I complete during my training contract?

  • Family Law
  • Commercial Property
  • Residential Property
  • Litigation/ Dispute Resolution

What areas of law can I assist you with?

  • Business disputes
  • Property litigation
  • Debt recovery
  • Landlord and tenant disputes
