BHW Solicitors is pleased to have supported Edward Sykes on his successful acquisition of Bartmac Limited.
Bartmac, established in 1974, is a thriving haulage business based in Loughborough, Leicestershire that provides a cost-effective solution for clients including aggregate and asphalt giant, Aggregate Industries (Holcim UK). Bartmac provides transportation services across the Midlands with a large fleet of modern tipper heavy goods vehicles.
Having made the decision to retire from the business, the previous owners identified Edward as their preferred successor. The transaction was completed on a tight timetable to ensure it was finalised before the end of the 2024/25 tax year, including the incorporation of a new holding company to acquire the entire share capital of Bartmac Limited.
The acquisition was facilitated by a specialist team at BHW. Corporate solicitor Stephen McElhone worked with Edward, with property support from Beverley Merrell, head of commercial property, and commercial property solicitor Pavandeep Sanghera. Tax and accounting support was provided by Mark Harrison at Mark J Rees. The sellers were represented by Adam Gilbert of AG Corporate Law.
Stephen McElhone commented: “It was a pleasure working with Edward on this acquisition. His vision and dedication to continuing the legacy of Bartmac was clear. We wish him and the business every success in the future as he embarks on this new journey.”
Edward Sykes, the new owner of Bartmac Limited, expressed his enthusiasm for the future of the company, stating, “I am excited to build on the strong foundation established by the previous owners and continue to provide excellent service to our clients.” Prior to purchasing Bartmac, Edward spent five years as the Commercial Manager at Maxi Readymix Concrete, part of Holcim UK.
Edward added: “Stephen and the team at BHW provided a truly excellent service. Stephen was always on hand to listen and advise us through the transaction. Completion of the deal required working to a tight schedule, which the team took in their stride. They were a pleasure to work with, and I would have no hesitation working with BHW again in the future.”
