Further to our article in July 2025 outlining plans for Companies House to introduce mandatory ID verification for company directors and persons with significant control (PSC), Companies House have now confirmed both the date on which the new regime comes into force (18th November 2025) and the somewhat confusing transitional arrangements for PSCs.

Where someone is both a director and PSC of a company, they must provide their personal code in respect of their directorship as part of the company’s next Confirmation Statement (after 18th November) and separately provide the same personal code in respect of being a PSC within 14 days of the Confirmation Statement date via a completely different service (to be made available in November).

Where someone is a PSC only, they must provide their personal code (using the new service) within 14 days of their birth month. So if their birthday is 22nd January, they must provide the code within 14 days after 1st January 2026. Anyone with a birthday in November or December of this year will need to get their personal code notification sorted very promptly.

Note that these transitional rules only apply to people who are already PSCs as at 18th November 2025. The rules for PSCs going forward (i.e. anyone becoming a PSC after 18th November 2025) are that they must provide their personal code within 14 days of being added to the Companies House PSC register.
